During a mission inside Iraq, researchers for Refugees International found that the Sadrist movement had become "Iraq's largest 'humanitarian' organization" by providing large quantities of food, clothing, oil and other basic resources. As a result of the provision of goods and security, civilians, including displaced Iraqis, are joining militias at a rapid pace.
